To Fuse Nature with Architecture

We explored many forests and finally reached the forest in Hakuba, whose name means white horse. Hakuba forest changes its face each season, and its glorious nature is also appealing. The first thing we attempted to do was measure the size of each of the trees in an approximately 3.3 hectare wide forest. We wanted to create an architecture that blended in with the surrounding, beautiful environment. There were some trees that were more than 100 years old, so we designed and produced the hotel based on our concept, “A hotel in the forest”. That means that the hotel will not be any higher than these old trees, our ancestors.
We also placed a special emphasis on interior design that could function harmoniously with nature. For example, you can look at the beauty of the forest while bathing, and feel plenty of sunshine coming in from the big windows. We also obtained ideas from Frank Lloyd Wright’s designs. His concept was “to fuse nature with architecture.” What we strove for was a European style hotel that even Japanese people could relax and feel comfortable staying in. We hope that guests take time to explore and discover all that our hotel has to offer.
In an urban society, people always return to the center of this natural world. We would like you to appreciate that nature, animals, and human beings all coexist here in Hakuba.

Interior Design Started with Furniture

It’s not an exaggeration to say that we based the designs for the hotel interior around selected pieces of furniture. We drew special inspiration from the fine quality antique furniture we bought all over Europe.? We designed and produced rooms based on the inspiration created by each piece. Therefore, each room has a different style. For example, a sofa stimulated our imagination for the design of the lobby. The red and grayish-blue interior design is perfectly matched to this sofa to create a luxurious space.

Relaxation and Communication Space

Our aim is to provide a relaxing environment for our guests. We hope that you are able to relax as if you are staying in your own home. We have tried to create a heart-warming space to make you feel comfortable. In the lobby, each of the sofas has a slightly different color and shape. You will be able to pick, “This sofa is me, and that is him”. We have also prepared some soft drinks and snacks like herbal teas, home made cookies and pound cakes. We encourage you to have a good time sitting around the fireplace to engage in conversation with other guests.

The Hotel that Changes with Each Visit.

We always seek to accommodate visitors’ needs and are motivated to make improvements to meet our guests’ satisfaction. After the 1998 Winter Olympic Games in Nagano, we combined a couple of rooms together and changed them to deluxe rooms for our guests who preferred an upgraded stay. We also created rooms with a natural outdoor hot spring, an elaborated salon, and a bar. Every time you visit, you can see some changes somewhere in the hotel, and we hope that you enjoy these changes.
